Would You Like To Swing on a Cloud?
2003-10-13 | 10:29 a.m.

I wasn't sure I'd enjoy having a flatmate in such close quarters (ie. sleeping on a double bed with me - NOTE: double beds are barely sufficient for even the cosiest of lovers), but I've been having a blast the last week at my new pad.

It has been a good good week. We have no television or Internet, so Corinne and I have been staying up until 1:00am or so listening to Robbie Williams and Billy Joel, making new dance moves and at night, just before we close our eyes, we shower the room with the light from my bedside lamp and make shadow puppets. I am not kidding you.

We have determined that Corinne is the better dancer and that I make the better puppets of the two; she has moves reminiscent of Justin Timberlake's new grooves and my repertoire has included a giraffe's head, a duck, a rabbit, a croc and a dog that looks remarkably like scooby doo. I even got Scooby to say "Hey Shraggy!".

In another fit of boredom, I also lip synched Robbie Williams and Nicole Kidman's version of Sinatras' "Somethin' Stupid" with my hands. I think I did rather well, capturing the sweet, tender nature and complement of the two voices with my hands. How beautiful.

We went to Bowen Island yesterday and I got to smack my lips against the best set of chicken wings I've ever consumed in my whole life. And the best pumpkin pie, in ode to Thanksgiving weekend up here.

Other news:

1. Thanks to pressure from my manager, I made myself an International Student Identity Card. I was toying with the idea of writing something like "Yale" in the University field, but withdrew when it occured to me that it would be just my luck that a museum ticketer had gone to Yale and I'd have to make something up. Olde Ryerson, it was.

2. I am going to Steveston today, an olde fishing port in South Vancouver. We will eat fish and chips and get all oily.

3. I really need to get a phone. I need the Internet even more. I am living so ghetto.

4. I am living so ghetto because, unbeknownst to me, my bank account slipped $100 into the red. I need to scrounge up some dosh fast lest I be kicked out the pad only one month into the venture. Me no likey.

5. Happy Turkey Day, Canadian friends. It's been a slice.
